How long dose salon hair color last for?

okk i dye my hair from a box and it fades in like 6 weeks. so i deiced to dye my hair in the salon. im want to dye it dark brown. how long would the color ast for if i dye it dark brown. start to fade away. and how can i make it last longer my color. thankx for the help.
